View From the Nest: Welcoming Jocelyn Getson

An experienced insurance executive, Jocelyn brings to the Corvus Flock a holistic view of the evolution of our industry. Her passion encompasses identifying, building, and implementing risk-based insurance programs for a diverse array of partners.

Today we’re offering a warm Corvid welcome to our Vice President of Enterprise at Corvus, Jocelyn Getson.

An experienced insurance executive, Jocelyn brings to the Corvus Flock a holistic view of the evolution of our industry. Her passion encompasses identifying, building, and implementing risk-based insurance programs for a diverse array of partners.

At Corvus, Jocelyn will focus on developing partnerships under Corvus Enterprise, enabling partners to integrate directly with the CrowBar platform via an API to quote and bind. “This is a perfect solution for digital-first wholesale and retail brokers” she says, noting that it takes 1-5 minutes for partners to quote and bind Smart Commercial Insurance products with Enterprise.

In addition, Jocelyn notes that Corvus Enterprise is able to develop programs with custom coverage and limits for partners whose customer bases form aggregated groups that share similarities, such as industry class, business size or risk type. “This is ideal for affinity groups, business services providers and other partners who have data and unique insight into what their client base needs,” she says.

Previously, Jocelyn was Vice President of Partnership Strategy for Centricity, and most recently was Head of Cyber for Slice Labs. She served on the Advisory Board for the Warranty Innovations Conference, Consumer Technology Association Small Business Council, is a member of the Executive Women’s Forum for Information Security, Risk Management and Privacy, and is a frequent speaker and contributor to industry conferences and events.

We’re thrilled to have Jocelyn as part of the Flock. Let’s get to know her better with the latest edition of our new Corvid Q&A!

Q&A with Jocelyn Getson, VP of Enterprise

So, why Corvus?

What drew me to Corvus is the wonderful balance of delivering tech-led products that are built by insurance experts. Corvus is bridging the gap between “This is how we’ve always done it” and the next generation of Smart Insurance products. By giving our brokers and partners the tools needed to quickly scan and quote a business we are enabling them to bind more policies and ensuring their customers have the coverage they need when they need it.

Another example of the balanced tech and insurance approach is the Dynamic Loss Prevention (DLP) report, which empowers our partners to have conversations with their customers about cyber hygiene and some of the remedies available to help improve their overall risk of a cyberattack. We make complicated insurance products simple.

What’s exciting about the opportunities you see for Corvus Enterprise?

Corvus Enterprise is important now because there is an urgency to get businesses access to comprehensive cyber insurance and Corvus is meeting that demand by providing access to our platform in a manner that aligns with our partners’ business models and helps them achieve their goals. We see our key partners in this space to be online wholesale and retail brokers, as well as broker affinity groups and business service providers.

What’s your prediction for the insurance industry in the next three years?

From the policyholder’s point of view, three years from now they’ll find more access to customized and relevant products.  Leveraging AI and machine learning (ML) as the foundation of an insurance product allows insurers to not only better understand the risk profile of the insured but to also tailor their products to the specific needs of the insured.  As risks and exposures change and evolve for businesses it will drive more interest in insurance products.

What will differentiate insurance products from one another will be the services that the insurer is providing, like pre- and post-breach services. I do believe that the more relevant the products, services and offers become, the more likely we will see a shift from brokers “selling insurance” to their clients seeking to buy it. Brokers will have an opportunity to build deeper connections with their clients and demonstrate value, and Corvus is here to make sure they have the tools needed to accomplish that.

Customer-centric insurance products will also continue to grow in popularity. We are able to learn so much about customers through available data it is our duty to feed that into the coverage, the timing of the offer and underwriting. We already know one size does not fit all.  Leveraging data and signals allows companies like Corvus to underwrite better.

What are two things people should know about you?

Number one: I’m a pretty big gamer. These days I like to play along with what my kids are playing, but in truth I’ve always had gaming through my life, going back to the classic Sierra games like King’s Quest. I should note that I have six solo Victory Royales in Fortnite, which, if you know what that means, you’ll know it makes me very popular with my kids and their friends.

Second, my motto is “you start where you are, use what you have, and do what you can.” As a result, I’ve never related to a fictional character more than Han Solo. He gets the job done using what he has on hand, is able to navigate new situations, and is fluent in sarcasm – that is me in a nutshell!
